Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book a private GP appointment?
You can book a remote GP appointment online by choosing an available date and time that suits you. Alternatively, call us on 01784 665255 and we'll be happy to help.
How do I pay for my private GP appointment?
Payment information will be provided as part of the booking process. Your appointment is confirmed once the booking and any required payment have been completed.
I've changed my mind about my appointment. What should I do?
We understand that plans can change or your symptoms may improve. If you no longer need your appointment, or you'd like to change the date or time, please let us know at least 24 hours before your appointment. Changes made with more than 24 hours' notice are free of charge.
If you do not attend your appointment or cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, the full consultation fee will be charged.
How long will my consultation be?
Remote GP appointments are up to 15 minutes, giving you time to discuss your health concern, receive clinical advice and agree the next steps in your care.
If you have several concerns or feel you may need additional time, please contact us before booking so we can advise on the most appropriate appointment.
Who are your doctors?
Our GPs are UK-trained, GMC-registered family doctors with many years of experience in both NHS and private practice. We carefully select clinicians who share our commitment to providing safe, compassionate and personalised healthcare.
Are there any limitations to what you can prescribe?
Our GPs will only prescribe medication if it is clinically indicated. Some medication will only be prescribed if it is possible to share the consultation notes with your NHS GP. Additionally, we do not issue any controlled medication (except a limited supply of codeine based medication). For more information about what is classed as a controlled drug, please see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/controlled-drugs-list--2/list-of-most-commonly-encountered-drugs-currently-controlled-under-the-misuse-of-drugs-legislation.
What if I need further investigations, such as a blood test or scan?
If further investigations are recommended, we'll explain why they're needed and discuss the most appropriate options with you. We can arrange a wide range of blood tests directly, and where scans or other investigations are required, we'll guide you through the next steps. We'll always explain any costs upfront, so you can make an informed decision before proceeding.
What if I need to see a specialist?
If your GP feels you would benefit from seeing a specialist, we can provide a private referral to an appropriate consultant. We'll discuss your options with you and provide a referral letter to support your ongoing care.
As a private GP service, we cannot make NHS referrals directly. However, with your consent, we can write to your NHS GP with our assessment and recommendation, who can then consider an NHS referral if appropriate.
Will seeing a private GP affect my registration with my NHS GP?
No. Seeing a private GP will not affect your registration with your NHS GP. We encourage all patients to remain registered with an NHS GP to ensure continuity of care.
With your consent, we can share details of your consultation with your NHS GP where appropriate. Please note that we do not have access to your NHS medical records, so it's helpful if you tell us about any relevant medical history, medications or ongoing treatment during your appointment.
Can you provide letters for court proceedings or Legal Aid?
We do not provide reports or letters for court proceedings, Legal Aid or other medico-legal purposes. These requests usually require access to your complete medical records and an independent assessment, which are outside the scope of our service.
If you require this type of report, we recommend contacting your NHS GP or the healthcare professional who has overall responsibility for your care.
Can I get a repeat fit note?
Our GPs can issue a fit note for up to two weeks, where clinically appropriate. If you need a fit note beyond this period, we'll recommend that you contact your NHS GP, who is best placed to provide ongoing certification and support for longer-term absence from work.
Is a private GP appointment right for you?
Private GP appointments are ideal for most everyday health concerns, ongoing medical conditions, health assessments and second opinions. However, if you are experiencing severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, symptoms of a stroke or another medical emergency, you should call 999 or attend your nearest Emergency Department immediately.
